- This is not advice on how much alcohol to drink while breastfeeding. Please consult with your doctor regarding alcohol consumption.
Alcohol is technically a 4th macronutrient with a calorie value of ~7 calories per gram. The US FDA does not require nutrition labeling for alcoholic beverages, so in most cases this information is not included on the product – or if it is, usually only the total calories are listed, and in some cases, the number of grams of carbs, but not the grams of alcohol per serving. So a common mistake made is that dieters will arbitrarily track their drinks as carbs while neglecting the calories from alcohol, which can add a layer of difficulty to losing weight since carbs have nearly half the calories per gram that alcohol does.
Use the below calculator to convert the total calories in your drink to carbs and/or fats, depending on your available macros. Keep in mind that you must account for the separate ingredients in elaborate cocktails in order to increase your accuracy. If you are unable to do so, track the highest estimated total calorie value for your drink. (e.g. 1 margarita = 500 calories)
